Allée
Dumanoir
The famous ‘Allée Dumanoir’ is located
in Capesterre-Belle-Eau, Guadeloupe, French West Indies on the
road that leads to Trois-Rivière. It is lined with a
double row of 400 royal palm trees over a distance of 1300 yards.
This is all that remains of the entrance to
the land once owned by the Marquis de Brinon, Governor Hoüel
who was made a Marquis by Louis XIV. The property was later
bought with the title of Marquis de Brinon by the Pinels, a
very rich family from Capesterre. They transformed it into a
plantation with three sugar and coffee processing plants. In
1780, the property of the Pinel de Brinon was 756000 acres and
employed 202 slaves.
Philippe-Parfait Pinel Dumanoir planted the palm trees and thus
gave his name to the alley.
